Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in
heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be
loosed in heaven.
Again I say to you, that if two of you shall agree on earth about anything you want to
ask for, it
shall be done
for you by my Father who is
in heaven.

—Jesus in Matthew
18:18–19

rayer is
similar to a communi-

whereby we expose to him our desires,
our joys, our sighs— in a word, all the thoughts of
our hearts.

________

Confess your faults to one another, and pray for one another so
that you may
be healed.
The fervent

prayers of a righteous man are very powerful.

"Watch and
pray"— the
secret of the
sacred sim-

imparts the
power to walk
and not faint,
and the lasting
remembrance
of our lives is
of the Lord,
not of us.

________

The fruitful life
is the abiding life. The prayer life is the
abiding life
(John 15:7).
The moment
we allow any
sin to cut us
off from that
sweet and
blessed
fellowship
with our Lord,
then it is that
our lives
become
fruitless and
prayer is
ineffective.
Jesus said,
"Without Me,
ye can do
nothing (John

Great Light.

________

I want to call
special
attention to
Christ as an
example for us
in all things; in
nothing more
than in prayer.
We read that
Christ prayed
to His Father
in everything.
Every great
crisis in His
life was
preceded by
prayer.

—D.L. Moody

________

If we struggle
in prayer it is
because the
enemy is
gaining ground.
If the prayer is
simple to us,
it is because
we have the
victory.

—Oswald

T
he sum,
then, of the
Lord's
teaching
on prayer is
this: its true
center is
neither our
needs, nor
our wills.
The true
focus of
prayer
is God,
and
God's will.

—James
Thomson

________

There is only
one field of
service that
has no snares, and that is the
field of inter-
cession. All
other fields
have the
glorious but
risky snare of
publicity;
prayer has not.
The key to all
our work for
God is in that
one word we
are apt to
despise—
"Pray." And
prayer is
'labourer' work.

The reason
prayer is so
important is,
first of all,
because our
Lord told us
that prayer on
the ground of
His redemption
is the most
mighty factor
He has put
into our
hands...

Prayer is
labour, not
agony, but
labour on the
ground of our
Lord's
redemption in
simple
confidence in
Him. Prayer
is simple to us
because it
cost Him so
much to make
it possible to
us. God grant
that we may
work His
victories for
him by taking
his way
about it.

Little of the

Much of the

Christ intercedes for us in heaven, the Spirit intercedes for us in our hearts. Because Jesus is constantly interceding for us, should we not follow his example and pray for those around us? In doing so, we not only imitate Christ, but we invoke His power, the power that can heal the sick. A power that can change lives and draw even the most hardhearted to himself.

—Matthew Henry
